The Naval Civil War in Florida is the topic of August Third Thursday Lecture
The Mandarin Museum and Historical Society, in partnership with the Mandarin Community Club, is excited to announce Rob Mattson will be speaking at the Third Thursday lecture, to be held on August 15, 2013.
Mr. Mattson’s presentation will give a brief overview of the organization of the Union and Confederate Navies in the Civil War and then focus on major naval actions in Florida during the War. He will also have a small display of Civil War Naval weapons, uniforms, equipment, and publications.
Rob Mattson has been participating in Civil War Navy Living History Interpretation for the past 8 years as a member of the USS Fort Henry Living History Association. The members of this unit specialize in interpretation of U.S. Navy and Marine personnel in the Civil War. Rob is also a Guest Blogger for the “Civil War Navy Sesquicentennial” website, a site sponsored and maintained by the U.S. Navy’s Naval History and Heritage Command Branch.
Please join us at the Mandarin Community Club, 11247 Mandarin Road, beginning at 6:30 pm with refreshments. The lecture will begin at 7 pm. There is no charge but donations are gratefully accepted.
